Applying for a talk/poster

If you would like to present a talk or a poster at the Symposium, you need to fill in the Abstracts Form. But PLEASE MAKE SURE that you have first completed the Registration process!

Note that you can only submit up to TWO abstracts for the Symposium. If you want to submit more, one of your co-authors who plan to come for the Symposium will have to submit and present it. To submit two abstracts, you will have to repeat the process below for each of them.

Before you start filling in the form, it would be helpful if all the co-authors of your talk/poster who plan to attend the Symposium have already completed their registration.

The abstract should be a summary of the proposed contents of your talk or poster. The talk or poster would be about the work that you or your organisation has done in the field of astronomy communication and outreach. For an idea of the possible themes of the Symposium, please check out the list at the bottom of this page. Please be specific in your abstract about the work you want to present, its context, and impact, so that our evaluation process can be more robust.

Step 1: Click on the "Call for Abstracts" on the left hand side menu.

Step 2: Click on "Submit new abstract"

Step 3: You will be taken to a new form that you will have to fill in. Explanations for each field are given below.

Title:  This is the title of your talk or poster.

Content:  This is your abstract, or a summary, of your proposed talk or poster (max 200 words). Please be very specific in your description of what your talk or poster will be about. Successful talks and posters will be selected based primarily on this abstract.

Authors:  First click on 'Add myself' and make sure that you are selected as the Author. If you have other co-authors for your talk/poster, then (1) if they have registered already, you can either click on 'Search', find them, and add them, or (2) if they are not attending the Symposium and hence are not registered, you can add them by clicking 'Enter manually'. Please ensure that the microphone symbol is clicked against your name, to indicate that you are the presenter. Only the presenter should fill in this form. Please select all other names as Co-author.

Comments:  You can leave this blank.

Enter your registration number:  This would be referenced in the email confirming your registration, as below. In the example below, you would enter just the number 2, and is useful for internal bookkeeping.

Have you registered for the Symposium already?: This is a check to ensure that you have done so!

Your registered email:  Please enter the same email that you used to register for the Symposium. This is for our internal book-keeping.

Affiliation of authors:  Please enter the parent organisation of each author, in the order of their names, separated by a comma, starting with your own. Please enter Independent if not affiliated.

Presentation type:  Click on either talk or poster. Note that some submitted talks might be selected as a poster, in which case, we will get back to you about that.

Which theme best fits your abstract: Choose whichever theme best fits your talk/poster. You can select 'Any other' if it does not fit in any of the listed themes. This is not an exclusive list.

Then click on Submit.

Note that you will NOT get an automated email confirmation after submission.
