Description

Abstract:

Owing to a steady increase in the aperture of solar telescopes and the development of efficient high-order adaptive optics systems, the amount of spatial detail with which we can observe the solar surface has increased by almost an order of magnitude over the last 20 years. The development of observational techniques and instruments has not managed to keep pace with these developments, resulting in a widening gap between the instruments that are available and the instruments that are required to fully exploit large aperture telescopes scientifically. In this talk, I will describe how a combination of numerical image restoration techniques and new types of instruments can help to reduce this gap.
